ITMO University's traditional summer school in photonics is back! After the enforced break last year, the Faculty of Photonics and Optical IT has made a decision to move Summer School 2021 to online to ensure the safety of participants.
Staff members of the Laboratory of Quantum Processes and Measurements have found the cause of errors that occur on subcarrier frequencies in quantum key distribution (QKD) systems – as well as a way to eliminate it. Their research was in Optics Express.
ITMO University has recently launched a new unit that specializes in studying quantum processes. According to the founders of the new laboratory, they are planning to introduce breakthrough theoretical developments of fundamental physics into an experimental science. ITMO.NEWS contacted Anton Kozubov, the head of the new laboratory’s theoretical department, in order to learn more about the tasks that the scientists have set for themselves, as well as why their completion can expand the horizons of modern physics.
Laboratory of Quantum Processes and Measurements (QPM) of ITMO University was created on February 17, 2020, in ITMO University with the financial support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. QPM Lab is engaged in the creation and expansion of quantum models of elements of quantum optics and their application in the basic protocols of quantum communications and quantum informatics.
At the end of December 2019, the results of scientific projects bid carried out by teams of research centers and scientific laboratories of higher educational institutions subordinate to the Russian Ministry of Education and Science were summed up. The project developed by scientists from the International Institute of Photonics and Optoinformatics of ITMO University won this competition. The project “Quantum dynamics and correlation measurements of multimode photonic systems and topologically non-trivial polarization states” has received the status “performed within the framework of the state assignment in the field of science”, with appropriate funding from the federal budget.
